Journal Entry #7 Logos, ethos, pathos exercise

Who are you, and what authority do you have on the topic of your project?
How clear and consistent is your reasoning for why you want to make this project?
What are you communicating with this project that the audience you are targeting doesn't already know?
How will people remember your project?
What are you motivating people to do in your project?
How will you bring your project to life in the minds of the audience?

ANSWERS
1.     I am a woman, a professional, and a dreamer with an innovative imagination.
I believe that I am fully capable of doing my project because my project is about innovation and imagination. My project is my vision and who better to create it than myself.
2.     My reason for this project is simply self-discovery. I think that people or organizations need to figure out what it is they are capable of doing when it comes to creating an idea and turning it into something more.
3.     What I am trying to communicate with this project is that it is okay to take a risk, to think outside of the box, to take something to the next level. When you discover something new, whether that is knowledge or an idea, you have the opportunity to enhance anything with it.
4.     People will remember my project by the message. My project will be conveyed with passion.
5.     I am motivating people to discover, to be inspired, innovative, and to reach their full potential when it comes to implementing an idea.
6.     Unanswered.

This activity was pretty difficult for me to answer because I had such a difficult time figuring out what route I would like to take in my project choice. For this reason, I left out a lot of important information that would have helped to articulate my plan and engage my audience more. I am still in the beginning phases of my project idea so I was very unclear in what exactly my project would be. My project idea that I had came up with was to create a magazine and a website to inspire nonprofits on how to use digital technology to creatively and innovatively support their mission in the digital future.  When I shared my answers to these questions with the class, it was very unclear what I wanted my project to be so it was very confusing to the class and not communicated very well.

After I received my feedback I realized that first and for most I need to actually communicate my project plan to my audience. I need to have a specific, solid plan that is clear and concise, and easy to understand. Once I have a better understanding of my project, I also need to be more confident when I am articulating my project plan to an audience. I was very nervous while answering these questions because I was not thoroughly confident in my answers. Once I have a clear plan to share, I need to make my plan engaging to the audience, if I want them to value what it is I want to accomplish.

Journal #6 The Golden Circle

Old word: obscure    New word: discovery

My project idea is to help keep non-for profit organizations on an innovative and successful path towards the future, by providing them with a magazine resource that will keep them updated on digital media and ways to explore the digital media world to use as a driving force for their mission.

I think that my project idea starts in the inner “why?” circle. It starts from the inner circle, because I believe that community involvement is essential to everyday survival; and non for-profits are the leading force in community involvement. It is imperative for non-profits to thrive in the future because if they fail, due to lack of support, then many of the necessary services that they provide for the public will no longer be available.  I think that discovery fits into the “why?” inner circle. I believe that in order to create something you have to discover something. Discovery means to me, the exploration of something, or tapping into something, and experiencing it. When you experience something, you have the opportunity to become more knowledgeable and so inspired by the subject, that it motivates you.

My personal goals that I have established for myself after I complete this project, is to do exactly what I chose for my word, to discover. I think the more that I pursue what I am passionate about, the more I can learn, experience, and create, so that I can find my purpose in life. I have many business ideas that I would love to create and implement into something more, but the thought of starting a new project and the acceptance of it can be very intimidating. I hope after this project, I can gain the drive and the confidence I need to take a chance and do what I always wanted to do.

I think that my goals obtain to my project, because it is something that I am passionate about. I think that developing this project will be a stepping-stone to actually obtaining my goals.

Journal Entry #4

Today in class we partnered up with a fellow classmate to discuss our project ideas. The student had to be someone we did not know or someone that did not know what our project was about. The person I partnered up with was Matt Eaton. Matt's capstone project is going to be a board game where players will tell stories. The board game is apart of a much bigger project collaboration with five other group members. Some of the features of the project includes a website and a live version game experience. Matt's main portion of the project is the board game. The idea of this project is to make a game that helps facilitate the use of your imagination through storytelling. With the excessive amount of video games and movies, people are losing touch with the use of their imagination. This project will create a total interactive experience for the audience. The target audience for this project is 12-25 year olds. The game is simple enough for anyone to use, but complex enough for people to stay intrigued by it.

Journal Entry #3 Passion and the 7'ps

After applying the 7p’s to my concept for my capstone project, I realized a few things. One thing that I noticed was that the further I tried to explain my concept, the more vague it became which became very confusing to me.  I also realized that my passion for what I wanted to do became less and less clear.  The enthusiasm was gone as well too; you can start to tell that I just started to write just to have something down. I think the best way to put passion into my project is to really sit and think of what it is I want to do. I said I wanted to make a difference in the world. I want to change society through digital media. But I need to figure out what exactly I want to change, who it is I want to reach, and how I want to reach them. I think once I figure that out then planning my project will become easier and maintain my passion and excitement. It is hard to be passionate about something when you do not necessarily know what it is to be passionate about. I think if I started to really dig deeper and find my inspiration, then I can find my passion and the way I want to share it with the world.

The 7 P's Framework

The 7 P’s Framework:

I am still unsure on what to do for my project, however I do have a vague description of what the general purpose is going to be.

Purpose: to link digital media and community service together that will inspire the community of Indy

Product: This project will be a collaborative project with a nonprofit organization that will connect, motivate, and promote discovery.  How? I am not sure just yet

People: group members, a nonprofit organization within Indy, other
Group members will be conducting all research needed to collaborate with nonprofit organization, as well as collect data after collaboration to create final product. The nonprofit organization and participants will be whom we collaborate with to implement project and provide feedback.

Process: time, nonprofit organization facilities, Internet, computer, adobe software, resources (data), and money

Pitfalls: not having enough time, miscommunication or ineffective or failed partnership with nonprofit organization. Backups-possibly having a backup organization to work with, or different ideas or methods we can use just in case others do not work
Prep: research and brainstorm our project ideas, research and choose a nonprofit organization to work with, choose a medium that will help us to showcase our work

Practical Concerns: We still do not have a clear understanding of what we want to do for our project. We have an idea of what general accomplishment we want it to make. We also want it to inspire and have a positive effect on the community. We hope researching and brainstorming will not take up the time we need actually need to create our project.
